K-pop is one of those industries where if you don’t keep up then you will be thrown in the trash... literally... just look at how “well-received” Ikon was after going on a hiatus for no apparent reason back in 2018 and their comeback more or so made no noise.
But that is not what we are talking about here, today I am presenting you some of the greatest comebacks in K-pop History:
On June 30th, 2014, South-Korean news outlet released news that 2NE1 girl Group member attempted to smuggle “drugs” to South Korea.
Being the strict and rigid society it is, it was really fast before Park Bom was no longer considered desirable by the public pushing her label YG entertainment to force them unto a non-desired hiatus.. We just never heard of them again.
Up until 4 years ago where CL who had recently released her new single, invited her bandmates back on stage and that was the last time we saw all of 4 of them together: Enjoy!
In 2020, it is without any doubt that the Girls Generation have paved the way for every girl-group that exists today, they went through it all!
Back in 2010, their label SM Entertainment had organized a “family label concert” where all the artists get to perform together for one night and where fans from different fandoms will get to meet and enjoy the different artists together... Sounds like a great idea right? Well that specific year, EXO fans took it upon themselves to create what we call a “ Black Ocean”: when GG started performing in front of an 80K audience, it was dead silent the Exo fans turned off their cameras and looked away from the stage. The girls spoke eventually about how that experience was for them at an interview with SBS
Take a look at the horror for yourself:
But 4 years later, GG grew their fandom and the same annual concert happened again but this time we couldn't even hear them sing, the crowd was so loud for them, and this video is why this comeback will remain the best in K-pop's history: ( I am not crying you are)
Now I know this isn't a specific comeback but I need my favorite western artists to start taking notes, look at how amazingly creative these album covers are. The complete new design on it's own made this comeback iconic:
They include so much more than just the music and gives a reason for fans to purchase more of them which explains the 340,000 sales for local K-rapper G-Dragon ... we miss him.
Take a look at his comeback video as well:
Jimin and J-hope are the main and lead dancers of international phenomenon BTS, they work amazingly well together, and this performance includes a fully blindfolded choreography: I see nothing but talent, bravo!
While being extremely over worked by their label SM, Red Velvet always seems to deliver the best music themes and they somehow are able to stay consistent with their brand while expanding on the "red" and the "velvet" themes of their group name!
I remember them releasing these two songs back to back and I was LIVING for it, look at how versatile they are!
If you ever were under the impression that your ideas are creative and unique wait till you hear about LOONA. The group was introduced to the public one member at a time and each member released a Solo single to showcase her own talent to the public for a total of 12 months ( One month for each member, each month representing a different theme).. and their 2019 release made it to the top US chart, talk about an amazing comeback strategy!
Forbes made sure to also give them and their label a shoutout, according to them "Loona’s alternate route to a K-pop debut has allowed for the group’s members to be introduced in a way to individualize them, both as individuals and artists, which is always a difficulty for double-digit K-pop groups."
